Oils DO Mix Together!
Oil Pastel & Baby Oil Technique Supplies: Oil Pastels (2 or 3 coordinating colors) Baby Oil Matte white cardstock Cotton Balls stamps & inks of choice Directions: 1) Scribble 2 or 3 colors of Oil Pastels on white matte cardstock 2) Squirt some baby oil on a cotton ball & swirl pastels to blend 3) Let dry for a few minutes and overstamp with your choice of inks & stamps A very simple technique that yields some lovely backgrounds in just a few minutes! My sample shows 2 pieces....the background piece I did with a soaked cotton ball & plenty of baby oil for a more muted result. The foreground piece (with image stamped on it) used same amount of pastels with very little baby oil for a more vibrant outcome. Stamp credits: verse by savvystamps and image by Northwoods Rubber

Faux Overlay
This card mimics the overlays you spend your money on.
Just cut your large layer slightly smaller than your
card front and layer with the same color your focal
image and you have a nice "stand-in" overlay look.
My card uses a stamp by Northwoods Rubber.
I added a clear acrylic bubble on top of the sun
for added dimension.
A very quick card to put together as is and this image works good with
some of the Stampscapes ones.

Outside Looking In
This simple, yet effective, illusion was accomplished with a little tape and a lot of
fun.
I stamped the frame first and then masked every line before stamping
the fern fronds and finally the giraffe.
I stamped an extra ear and popped it up for dimension.
If you look really close you can see where I got lazy with my masking.....

Misty Mountain
A scenic card made from only 2 stamps? Yes it can be done and
I did it!
I stamped the pine tree by Northwoods on plain white cardstock with
green dye ink and then punched a circle mask for the moon effect.
Then I stamped again in light blue and again without re-inking. I used 2 different tree stamps,
making them sort of fade away in the fog.
A little blue sponged around the moon mask before removing it
and some ribbon finished the "scene."
To me it looks like a mountain slope socked in with fog
at night.
What's it look like to you?

Word Backgrounds

This is a "need-to-make" card. My newest grandchild is getting baptized next week and I had to make a card for the little one right? I kept it sort of simple so the word background stood out.
I made the word background on this card from a website called Wordle You type in a bunch of words and it rearranges them into a cool background. The possibilities are endless and it's so much fun!
My one stamp used is by Northwoods Rubber . Let me know what you think of it please.

Scenic Stamping

This card was done by simply swiping an ink-filled brush across ultra-smooth paper, lifting up half-way across & turning the paper and repeating so the very center remains lighter. I built up my colors by starting with the lightest color first. The next (darker) color I lifted up a little bit sooner and so on. Then I overstamped the images for my scene in black. My good friend, Karen Wallace, showed me the way to do this technique. The trick to this is to keep a very light touch with your brush....colors can be added easily, but hard to erase when you get too much color.
By varying your colors you can make a wide array of scenic art or just fantastic backgrounds. A little tip: they don't look too promising until you put your scenic stamps in...
Stamps used were by Northwoods Rubber and Stampscapes.
